Xiaomi has revealed its latest foldable device in China, known as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. True to the company’s tradition of equipping its premium phones with high-end features, this model boasts a Leica-tuned camera system. Notably, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold, the Mix Fold 3 features a nearly full-sized front screen, maintaining a form factor comparable to that of a conventional smartphone. It was said to be available in August and the company kept to their words on it.

On a preliminary analysis, the Mix Fold 3 shares many resemblances with the Honor Magic Vs, including its comfortable display arrangement and a similar main camera setup. However, a noteworthy distinction lies in its slim profile, which will be discussed further.

Regarding its camera capabilities, the Mix Fold 3 is equipped with the same Sony IMX800 sensor that was also found in the Magic Vs and Honor 70, thereby governing its photography prowess. Although the sensor’s performance was commendable in both earlier models, the absence of optical image stabilization (OIS) was a noted drawback in the camera setup.

In addition to this, the Mix Fold 3 encompasses other camera modules. These comprise a 12MP ultra-wide camera with a focal length equivalent to 15mm and an f/2.2 aperture, a 10MP near-telephoto camera with a focal length equivalent to 75mm, featuring OIS and an f/2.0 aperture, and a 10MP periscope camera with an f/2.92 lens, boasting an equivalent focal length of 115mm.

The inclusion of these four cameras offers the Mix Fold 3 a notably broader range compared to the majority of foldable devices. While the phone may not feature the most extensive sensors available, such as those seen in the impressive Xiaomi 13 Ultra, it unquestionably stands out within the realm of folding smartphones, excelling in its camera capabilities.

Other Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 highlights

As anticipated, Xiaomi has integrated top-tier performance into its latest Mix Fold 3, employing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version. This processor bears remarkable resemblance to the one found in the Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Teamed up with a substantial 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and a choice of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB UFS 4.0 storage, it has proven itself as a formidable workhorse throughout our usage.

The display specifications are equally remarkable both on paper and in actual use. The front screen measures 6.45 inches and offers an incredibly comfortable user experience, featuring support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Additionally, it boasts a refresh rate of 120Hz and an impressively high peak brightness.

The internal screen is an 8-inch foldable panel, also equipped with Dolby and HDR certifications, along with the same smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
