Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, is set to launch its inaugural AI model to a limited audience this Saturday, as announced by the billionaire and Tesla CEO on Friday. This development comes approximately a year after OpenAI’s ChatGPT captivated the interest of businesses and users worldwide, leading to a notable increase in the adoption of generative AI technology.

Musk co-founded OpenAI, the organization responsible for ChatGPT, in 2015, but he resigned from the company’s board in 2018. He took to his X social media platform to express that xAI’s new model is, in many significant aspects, the best currently available.

Musk also mentioned that once the xAI’s Grok system moves beyond its initial beta phase, it will be accessible to all X Premium+ subscribers. X, formerly known as Twitter, recently introduced two new subscription plans: a Premium+ tier priced at $16 per month, catering to users who wish to enjoy an ad-free experience, and a basic tier priced at $3 per month.

Musk, who has previously criticized Big Tech’s AI endeavors and what he considers censorship, revealed earlier this year his intention to launch a truth-seeking AI of the highest order, aiming to comprehend the universe’s nature, thereby competing with Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing AI.

The team behind xAI, which was introduced in July, comprises individuals from renowned AI research organizations such as Google’s DeepMind and Microsoft’s parent company, among others. While X and xAI are distinct entities, they maintain a close working relationship, with xAI also collaborating with Tesla and various other companies.

In September, Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle and a self-proclaimed close associate of Musk, revealed that xAI had entered into a contract to train its AI model on Oracle’s cloud.
