Since Apple’s acquisition of Workflow in 2017, the Shortcuts app has undergone significant advancements. For those who may not be familiar, this app allows users to create sequences of automated tasks on their iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even Apple Watch. In iOS 17, Apple is introducing further enhancements to the app, expanding its capabilities to include actions for the Camera app.
Camera app shortcuts coming to iOS 17
According to Matthew Cassineli, the recent iOS 17 beta, accessible to developers and public beta testers, introduces fresh Shortcuts actions to access specific camera modes within the Camera app. The new “Open Camera” action empowers users to select from a variety of camera modes and promptly initiate any preset they desire using Shortcuts.
The available modes may vary, offering up to nine different options based on the device in use.

These shortcuts offer great utility for numerous tasks, such as setting up voice commands to leverage Siri for opening the Camera app in a specific mode. Additionally, you have the option to add icons for easy access to a particular mode directly from your Home Screen.
iOS 17 introduces a range of fresh features for the iPhone, such as improvements to FaceTime and Messages, a new StandBy mode, interactive Home Screen widgets, NameDrop, and more intelligent keyboard suggestions. The update for iPad includes a newly customizable Lock Screen and added support for microphones and USB webcams.
Currently, the iOS 17 beta is accessible to users through the Apple Developer and Apple Beta Software programs. The official public release is anticipated to take place in the fall.
