Microsoft rolled out its latest Windows 11 update last February 2023 and this has becomes a pain in the heart of many using, who are running some third-party UI customization applications on their devices as this Windows 11 update has lead to error in this applications.
According to Microsoft after applying the KB5022913 February 2023 non-security preview update, also called Moment 2, it is expected that ‘windows systems with some of those UI tools installed won’t work at all as expected’.
This simply means that windows devices with some third-party UI customization apps might not start up due to the Windows 11 update, because most of these third-party apps runs on explorer.exe which might repeat multiple times in a loop on startup thus generating errors. These types of apps often use unsupported methods to achieve their customization and as a result can have unintended results on your Windows device.
Two of the most affected third-party UI customization app is the ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack UI customizations apps, however it is believe by software purveyor, that an upgraded version may fix the issue. It is also known that this problem is peculiar to systems running Windows 11 22H2. Windows Server is not affected.
In a statement by Microsoft, they are working on a way around the problem and Microsoft is recommending “that you uninstall any third-party UI customization apps before loading the KB5022913 update onto the systems. however, if your Windows device is already experiencing this issue, you might need to contact customer support for the developer of the app you are using. Users who are running the StartAllBack, are encourage to update their app to the latest version (v3.5.6 or later), in order to prevent this issue”
More so, Microsoft said it is investigating the problem and will provide more information when it is available to the general public. For now, the latest Windows 11 update is an optional release that won’t automatically be loaded but can be installed manually.
Some of the features added to the Windows 11 update in February 2023 include,
– A shortcut to Bing’s AI chatbot being put in the taskbar,
– A Phone Link for iOS, so thats iPhone users can connect directly to the Windows devices,
– A tabs in Notepad,
– A touch-optimized taskbar for 2-in-1 devices, and
– An enhanced support for braille systems .
