Meta (Facebook) announced that its slashing down the price of its Virtual Reality headset last Friday, the price slash will affect both the Quest 2 and high-end Quest Pro headsets.
According to Meta, the Meta’s Quest Pro headset has outward-facing cameras that capture the user’s physical environment in full color and enable the overlay of virtual elements like 3D models.
The Meta Quest Pro was launched in October, but due to its high price, it has been out of reach for most consumers. And there seem to be no clear professional use of the product either.
The initial price of the Quest 2 with 256GB was $499.99 and the new price has dropped to $429.99, while the price of the higher-end Meta Quest Pro will be slashed to $999.99 from $1,499.99.
In the quest for Meta to accomplish its company’s ambitious metaverse technology dream, Meta has invested billions of dollars into the project and it was reported that in 2022, Meta lost $13.7 billion on its Reality Labs segment but even at that Meta is not giving up on the project.
However, Meta made a profit of $727 million in the fourth quarter from its Reality Labs and $2.16 billion for all of 2022.
In comparing the sales of the Quest headsets between 2021 and 2022, Meta reported a decline from $2.27 billion in sales.
In a statement from Meta, it said that “their goal has always been to create hardware that’s affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of all that VR has to offer,” Well, with the new price, of the Virtual Reality headset which is lower could make it more attractive to both new and old audiences. The price change will begin rolling out on March 5 for the Meta Quest 2 and its hoped that the price might drop even further for buyers in the low economic areas of the world from March 15 according to source.
